PICPA NegOr Holds QAR Workshop

January 13-14, 2023

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Negros Oriental Chapter conducted a two-day workshop on Audit Methodology in Preparation for Quality Assurance Review (QAR) on January 13-14, 2023 at Hotel Essencia, Dumaguete City. The workshop aimed to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills on how QAR in conducted in accordance with the PRC-BOA's QAR guidelines.

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Remark M. Montalban, CPA, MSA-IA and Ms. Mariant G. Morales, CPA, who are both PICPA-EVR QAR trainers. They discussed the objectives, scope, and procedures of the QAR process and shared their insights and experiences on how to perform a QAR effectively and efficiently. They also demonstrated how to use the QAR template, which was provided to the attendees for free.

The workshop was attended by 30 individuals, mostly from the public practice sector. The attendees actively participated in the workshop activities and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from the experts.


The workshop also featured a special participation of Ms. Sugar Sagarino, who is the PICPA-EVR Regional Director.

Ms. Sagarino delivered an inspirational message to the attendees and encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics in their practice. She also commended the PICPA Negros Oriental Chapter for organizing the workshop and for its continuous efforts to provide service to its members and stakeholders.

A Joyful Celebration for a Beloved Past President

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants - Negros Oriental Chapter (PICPA NegOr) showed their love and appreciation for one of their esteemed past presidents, Ms. Cristina Rona, who celebrated her 81st birthday on January 28, 2023, at her residence in 347 Brgy. Batinguel, Dumaguete City.


The Chapter organized a surprise, such as cake and balloons, to Ms. Rona, who was visibly touched and delighted by the gesture. She thanked the Chapter for celebrating with her during her special day and for honoring her contributions to the profession and the Chapter. The event was attended by the current Chapter President, Ms. Mariant G. Morales, other past presidents of the Chapter including Mr. Elnard Justo, Ms. Belinda King, Mr. Don Ramas-Uypitching, Ms. Doriza Eumague, Ms. Cristina Jumawan, and Mr. Julito Pelayo.

Ms. Rona served as a president of PICPA NegOr. She is known for her dedication, integrity and excellence. She was a very active member of the Chapter, and would always be present to the Chapter’s activities.


The Chapter expressed their admiration and respect for Ms. Rona, who remains an inspiration and a role model for many accountants in the province. They wished her good health, happiness and more blessings in the years to come. 

PICPA Eastern Visayas Region conducts Government Summit in Dumaguete City

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants Eastern Visayas Region conducted Government Summit on February 2, 2023 at the Baly Oriental Hotel, La Residencia Events Hall, Dumaguete City.


The summit was graced by Commission on Audit Commissioner Roland C. Pondoc and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Officer of RDO 79 Grace Evelyn A. Lacerna. on the topic:  COA and BIR Updates for Effective Governance and Compliance. 

The summit also featured a special guest speaker, Dr. Henry A. Sojor, Chairman of the Board of Advisers and Consultants, Office of the Provincial Governor, Negros Oriental. Dr. Sojor gave his inspirational message to the participants.


A total of 224 stakeholders from the various government agencies and private organizations in Dumaguete City and the Province of Negros Oriental participated in the said gathering.  The open forum with the speakers gained a very valuable discussions for the participants.

PICPA NegOr Members Attend the 2023 PICPA VGAO-EVR Conference

February 17-18, 2023

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants - Negros Oriental Chapter (PICPA NegOr) participated in the 2023 PICPA VGAO-EVR Conference held on February 17-18, 2023 at Henann Resort, Panglao, Bohol. The conference was organized by the PICPA Visayas Geographical Area Region (VGAO) and Eastern Visayas Region (EVR) to provide updates and insights on various topics relevant to the accountancy profession.

Members of the Chapter from different companies and sectors attended the conference to learn from the experts and network with fellow CPAs. The conference featured seven technical sessions covering a wide range of subjects such as accounting standards, taxation, labor laws, sustainability, personal development, regulation, and business continuity. There were a total of nine speakers during the technical sessions who shared their knowledge and experience with the participants.


The conference was also attended by delegates from other provinces in the VGAO such as Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Leyte, Samar, and Bohol. The event was not only informational, but also and enjoyable as the delegates witnessed diverse talent performances, good food, and raffle draws. 

PICPA NegOr attends 2023 Regional Tax Campaign in Bacolod City

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue Region 12 hosted the kick-off of its 2023 Regional Tax Campaign on February 21, 2023 at the Acacia Hotel in Bacolod City. The event was attended by members of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants - Negros Oriental Chapter, as well as representatives from various organizations and sectors. The theme of the campaign was "Tulong-tulong sa Pagbangon, Kapit Kamay sa Pag-ahon. Buwis na Wasto, Alay para sa Pilipino".

The BIR's Regional Tax Campaign is an annual activity that aims to inform and inspire taxpayers to comply with their tax obligations and to appreciate the benefits of paying taxes. It also serves as a venue for dialogue and partnership between the BIR and its stakeholders in addressing tax-related issues and concerns.

PICPA NegOr Celebrates 100 Years of Accountancy in the Philippines

March 11-17, 2023

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants - Negros Oriental Chapter (PICPA NegOr) joined the nationwide celebration of the 100 Years of Accountancy in the Philippines on March 11-17, 2023. The Chapter organized various activities to commemorate this milestone of the profession.

Back-to-back activities were conducted on March 12, 2023. The day started with a motorcade around the Municipality of Zamboanguita, where the Chapter members displayed their pride and joy as accountants. Some members brought their own vehicles and accommodated those who did not have one. Tarpaulins and banners were also hung on the vehicles, and flaglets were waved by the participants.

After the motorcade, the Chapter paid a courtesy call to the Mayor of Zamboanguita, Hon. Jonah Pat I. Aviles, at the Zamboanguita Municipal Grounds. The Mayor welcomed the Chapter and expressed his appreciation for their contribution to the development of the municipality and the province. He also donated a lechon for their lunch later.

The Chapter then proceeded to Malatapay, Zamboanguita, where they had a “Painit”, the Pinoy version of continental breakfast, with puto, tsokolate, kutsinta, Zamboanguita’s well-known torta, and more! The Painit was prepared by Mr. Margarito Credo, which the Chapter highly appreciated. 

They shared their meal with the Zamboanguita Coast Guards, who would assist them in their next activity: a coastal clean-up. The Chapter members and the Coast Guards headed by CG CPO Melchor R. Inigo collected trash and debris along the Zamboanguita coastal areas. 

After the coastal clean-up, the Chapter moved to Margarito Credo's beach house in Zamboanguita, where they attended a holy mass. The mass was offered for the intentions of the Chapter and its members, as well as for the success of the accountancy profession in the country.

The Chapter then enjoyed a sumptuous lunch at Margarito Credo's beach house, where they also savored the lechon donated by the Mayor. They also had great time socializing with fellow PICPAns of the Chapter.

The highlight of the day was the tribute to Past Chapter Presidents, which was presented by the current Chapter President, Ms. Mariant Morales. She showed a tribute video that featured photos and clips of the Past Chapter Presidents. She also gave recognition and plaque of appreciation to each Past Chapter President who was present. The Past Chapter Presidents then gave their message to the Chapter, sharing their experiences and insights from their presidency. They also thanked the current officers and members for their support and dedication. They were surprised by a song number performed by young members and were each given roses as a token of gratitude.

The celebration ended with a group photo and a closing prayer. The Chapter members expressed their happiness and satisfaction with the activities they had done. They also thanked the organizers and sponsors for making the event possible. They hoped that their celebration would inspire more accountants to join PICPA NegOr .
