PICPA NegOr visits Dumaguete Youth Homes

As part of its Community Extension Program, PICPAns from Negros Oriental Chapter visited Dumaguete Youth Homes on April 29, 2023.


Food items and personal hygiene kits were distributed to the said beneficiaries after a short bonding with the youth and the personnel assigned at the center. 

PICPA NegOr attends National Summit on Public Practice

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) held its National Summit on Public Practice on May 4, 2023 at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Cebu City. The summit was organized by the PICPA Eastern Visayas Region (EVR) in cooperation with the PICPA National Office and Metro Manila Region. The theme of the summit was "Sustaining the Public Practice Profession in the Philippines by Playing it Forward - with Quality".


The summit aimed to provide a platform for public practitioners to share their insights, experiences, and best practices on how to maintain and enhance the quality of their services in the face of changing regulations, standards, and client expectations. The summit also featured keynote speakers from the Board of Accountancy, the Quality and Assurance Review Office, and other relevant stakeholders who discussed the current issues and challenges affecting the public practice profession.



The summit was actively attended by public practitioners from PICPA Negros Oriental Chapter. The participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from the experts, network with their peers, and update their knowledge and skills on the latest developments in the profession. 


The PICPA National Summit on Public Practice was a successful event that showcased the commitment and dedication of PICPA and its members to uphold the quality and credibility of the public practice profession in the Philippines.

PICPA Negros Oriental Leads the Way in Adapting to the Changing Landscape of Accounting

In a dynamic world driven by technological advancements, it is crucial for professionals to stay ahead of the curve. Recognizing this need, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Negros Oriental Chapter (PICPA Negros Oriental organized a webinar with the groundbreaking topic: “Gen Z Tech Talks: Insights and Tips,” on May 14, 2023, at 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon. The event aimed to equip certified public accountants (CPAs), professionals, and accounting students with essential knowledge about cutting-edge tools and platforms that are revolutionizing the accounting profession.

The online talk commenced with great enthusiasm, as participants eagerly joined the virtual gathering to learn from two distinguished speakers from the accounting industry. The event was the first of its kind in the region, bringing together professionals and aspiring accountants to explore the potential of digital tools.

The first segment of the webinar delved into the indispensable role of QuickBooks and Desktop Basics, guided by Mr. PG Olivier Bulfa, CPA. With precision and expertise, Mr. Bulfa shed light on the significance of QuickBooks in streamlining accounting processes, generating reports, and maintaining records on a user-friendly online platform.


Mr. Bulfa expounded on various critical topics, including sales, disbursements, check issuances, bank reconciliation, report construction and generation, deposits, withdrawals, customer information systems, supply information systems, and general journal entries. His valuable insights demonstrated how QuickBooks facilitate efficient report generation and its adaptability for both students and practitioners in today's rapidly evolving landscape.

Ms. Kristine Alos, CPA, the chapter secretary of PICPA Negros Oriental, led the second section, having technological skills in the accounting professional, where she provided fast tips on how to use various platforms and programs. Her extensive talk covered a variety of technologies, such as MS Word, PDF Tips, Canva Perks, Creating Simple Websites, Designing Forms, QR codes, remote Desktop Access, and leveraging the power of artificial intelligence.

Ms. Alos guided attendees through each topic with experience and finesse, giving insider insights and practical recommendations for harnessing the potential of these digital tools. She reiterated the enormous value these platforms provide to both current accounting students and seasoned practitioners.

In recognition of the Gen Z Tech Talks' huge success, Ms. Mariant Morales, CPA, President of PICPA Negros Oriental Chapter, announced plans to organize additional webinars that will continue to provide useful knowledge and assistance to accounting professionals. The local chapter's commitment to staying on the cutting edge of technological developments reflects their dedication to providing accountants with the tools they need to thrive in a constantly changing society.

PICPA National Election 2023

The candidates for the National Sectoral Director are Teresita Cervantes and Manuel Veluz, Jr. For the Eastern Visayas - Negros Oriental, the Regional Sectoral Representative candidate was Natalie Ermina. For Local Chapter Board, the following candidates have been nominated: Nasser Acuram; Ma. Rosalina Besario; Grace Caseres; Theresa Mercedes Maria Del Carmen Credo; Romyr Dellona; Amelita Domingo; Christian Magbanua; Mary Vanessa Paltingca; Carmille Ramos; and Rowena Viliran.

These individuals have expressed their willingness to serve the PICPA Negros Oriental Chapter in the Eastern Visayas Region and have outlined their objectives and goals for the position they are seeking.

The PICPA National Election serves as a significant event in the accounting profession, allowing members to actively participate in the democratic process and contribute to the development and growth of the organization.

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) held its annual national elections on May 16, 2023, Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Eligible Members in Good Standing (MIGS) as of March 15, 2023, exercised their voting rights by ballot casting in person at the Justo Sechico and Associates, CPAs Office, Portal West Building, Silliman Avenue, Dumaguete City.  Alternatively, others opted for proxy voting or utilized the PICPA OVS, the organization's online voting system.

Members were encouraged to participate and make their voices heard by selecting their preferred candidates who run in various capacities within the organization.

PICPA NegOr holds 4th Quarter General Membership Meeting

Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Negros Oriental Chapter, held its 4th Quarterly General Membership Meeting on June 25, 2023, at the Agueda Suite, Sans Rival Bistro, along Rizal Boulevard, Dumaguete City.


The meeting kicked off with a prayer led by Ms. Theresa MMC I. Credo, Chairperson on Committee on Fellowship and Sports. It was followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and recitation of the Oath of Certified Public Accountants. The attendees were greeted with warm words of welcome by Atty. Fe Marie D. Tagle, CPA, Vice President-Membership.


Chapter President, Ms. Mariant G. Morales, took the stage for the President’s Report. Pursuing this report was a detailed presentation of financial reports, as rendered by Treasurer PG Oliver Bulfa.


To take a break from highly technical aspect of the program, newly elected officials for the Fiscal Year 2023 – 2024 were introduced. PICPAns in attendance gladly met with the newly elected Eastern Visayas Region – Regional Sectoral Representative for Commerce and Industry, Ms. Natalie Ermina, and the newly elected chapter officers, Mr. Nasser Acuram, Ms. Theresa MMC I. Credo, Ms. Grace Caseres, Ms. Rowena Viliran, Ms. Mary Vanessa Paltingca, Ms. Carmille Ramos, and Ms. Romyr Dellona.


In preparation of the upcoming fiscal year, President-Elect Ms. Rovelen G. Visor, presented updates on the annual planning conference. The program culminated with a closing remark given by Past President Ms. Marcia Luz T. Salcedo followed by a closing prayer led by Ms. Rosario B. Villaluz, Assistant Secretary.

PICPA NegOr Conducts PQF and Tax Updates

One of the highlights for Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants – Negros Oriental Chapter in the month of June was the seminar on Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF) and Tax Updates. The face-to-face seminar was held on June 28, 2023, at Hotel Essencia, Dumaguete City.

 

The event opened with a prayer by Ms. Rosario B. Villaluz, Assistant Secretary, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Recitation of the Oath of Certified Public Accountants followed through, by PICPAns who joined the seminar.

 

Mr. Margarito Credo, Chairperson – Committee on Finance, was called on the floor to introduce an esteemed colleague in the profession and the guest speaker for the first part of the conference.

 

The seminar proper started with the discussion of the PQF by Mr. Shane Dave D. Tanguin, Co-Chairperson of PICPA Professional Development Committee and a Public Practice Sector Representative. Currently, he is an Assurance Partner in SGV & Co, CPAs. The session included discussions and understanding of the PQF and Career Progression and Specialization Program (CPSP) in the context of the accountancy profession. The talk was indeed a fruitful experience as PICPAns learned to identify the levels and domains in the competency framework in the accountancy profession so that the accountants in Philippines are globally at par.

Ms. Mariant G. Morales, Chapter President, awarded a token and certificate to show the chapter’s appreciation to Mr. Tanguin for sharing his invaluable time and expertise on PQF.


The second half of the seminar was led by Ms. Lorelei Balansag, Sectoral Director for Government Sector, as she introduced Ms. Maricris U. See, Tax Partner at SGV & Co., CPAs and PICPA Metro Manila Region Regional Sectoral Representative for Public Practice, to share important tax updates. Undeniably, the healthy dialogue on various concerns on the tax updates was productive, as proven by an abundant praise for the speaker and a rewarding afternoon activity.


Ms. Morales presented another token and certificate of appreciation for Ms. See’s vital presence during the event.


The activity wound up with words of wisdom from Ms. Doriza G. Eumague, Past President FY 2020-2021. Finally, Ms Ria Jane Favor concluded the program with a prayer, blessing the attendees and facilitators of a good day’s work.
